Emily Wollan, VisLife Editor
- What are you doing currently?
- I graduated from Vis in 2003, and I am currently the Executive Director/Founder of Secondhand Hounds, one of the largest animal rescues in the Midwest. We are a foster-based organization that rescues dogs and cats from high kill shelters and finds them amazing homes. We also provide low-cost veterinary services to underserved communities. Last year we officially opened our own vet clinic, Secondhand Hounds Veterinary Center, for our animals as well as all other animals in our community!
- How has your experience at Visitation shaped your life?
- I always talk about how Vis shaped my life. I feel so lucky to have been in a school that allowed us to explore different opportunities and truly discover who I was. Visitation’s staff always made me feel like I could achieve anything I put my mind to. I especially loved Ms. O’Connor- she gave me wings when it comes to writing! There is nothing like finding your voice and Vis helped me find mine.
- What would your advice be to current students at Vis?
- Think outside the box! You have been granted an amazing opportunity to be surrounded by passionate, intelligent, caring humans who will give you a headstart in life. Don’t go to college knowing exactly what you want to do. Go with an open mind and a wonderful Vis foundation. And remember to support charities when you’re a successful adult. AND remember that success does not equal money. Success is the positive impact you can make on this world. Memento Vivere!
