Welcoming the New Autumn with Fashion

Sarah Gimpl, Staff Writer

It’s that time of year again. Crisp air, toasty beverages, crunchy orange leaves, and best of all–autumn fashion! Every season is a new opportunity to experiment with different colors, textiles, patterns, and textures, in order to express oneself in a creative, personalized way. Since the air is frosty, layering clothes and adding staple pieces can create a comfortable look, while at the same time making an opportunity to mix and match.

This year, I’m seeing a lot of earthy, organic tones like burnt orange, forest green, and mustard yellow, and more dark tones like berry purple, burgundy red, and coffee brown. These palettes compliment each other wonderfully and can be seen in many different forms. For example, a warm-toned sweater paired with a wool plaid skirt that has hints of vibrant dark colors is simple, cozy, and comfortable. In addition, staple jackets, scarves, and accessories can pull together an outfit in an instant. Some of my favorite staple pieces are fleece lined jean jackets, knit beanies, and vintage coats that can be found at your local thrift or vintage store!

Mining thrift stores is a very fun way to get affordable, unique clothes. Another favorite look of mine is a knit dress paired with brown combat boots, which is perfect for on-the-go because it is very moveable and flow-y. To dress up an outfit like the aforementioned, add a leather belt, a bulky cardigan, and a Brixton Fiddler hat, giving it that extra effort and style.

Whatever the outfit, enjoy the little moments this autumn, and be sure to jump out of your fashion comfort zone by being bold and out of the box with color, fabric, and creativity! Don’t be afraid to shy away from trends; it is important to be your wonderful, authentic self and put your own spin on the fashion world!
