Local Music Spotlight: Early Eyes

Isabel Brandt, News Editor

Early Eyes is a Minneapolis indie-pop band formed at the University of Minnesota in 2016. Their accolades include winning The National Endowment of The Arts Songwriting Challenge, and the City Pages award for Top Music video for the video accompanying their song “Coffee”. City Pages also nominated them for Best New Band of 2017. The band has been selling out venues around the Twin Cities for the past couple of years, including local staples such as Paper House, The Fine Line, and First Avenue. They’ve performed at the Basilica Block Party, and recently they toured with indie group The Happy Fits. It’s no surprise that fans flock to their gigs, as Early Eyes is infamous for creating a fun atmosphere with their performances.

Early Eyes’ sound almost seems to evade the trappings of one strict genre, but it can be described as chill alt-pop mixed with indie rock and lo-fi funk. The band’s music runs in the same vein as The Mellowells and local legends Hippo Campus. Their mellow sound provides the perfect audio backdrop for relaxing or for a chill study session.  Be sure to check out their songs “Coffee,” “Penelope,” and “Feathers.”
