2020 was quite the year. The main topic that emerged above all other catastrophes in 2020 has been the Covid-19 pandemic. With over 1.8 million deaths worldwide (so far), labeling this catastrophe as a tragedy is an understatement.

Over the past couple of months, Visitation school has been in-person with social distancing and masks, and so far, there have been no in-school transmissions. Over the holidays, a few weeks were set aside for distance and hybrid learning to make sure no one who was on vacation or visiting family would unknowingly bring the virus into school when they returned.

There has been some backlash from parents and those in the community who say it is unsafe to allow children to gather indoors in such great numbers, but truthfully, with the right restrictions in place, Covid can be controlled, contained, and destroyed. At Vis, many restrictions have been put in place for the kid’s and community’s safety, and as a proud Vis girl, I can say that Vis is not part of the Covid problem. Vis can be used as an example to prove just how well masks work, and how if everyone wore them, together, we can destroy this virus for good.
