Outdoor Winter Activities in the Twin Cities

Caroline Sislo, Freelance Editor

Getting outdoors during the winter in Minnesota is not always the most exciting thing, especially when it is below zero. With research, I found some of the best things to do in the Twin Cities:

Look at Christmas Lights

Check google maps and visit the light show of your choice! There are walk-through light shows or drive-through shows. Bundle up, grab a friend (with a mask), and some hot cocoa!

Go Skiing

Minnesota is home to many AMAZING ski hills! Closer to home, there are Highlands or Buck Hill. If you are willing for a little drive, Lutsen or Afton Alps have amazing hills and amazing views!

Nature walk (with snowshoes!)

Minnesota has many beautiful parks to walk through! Let’s be honest, there is probably a nice walking trail close to where you live. Some of the top-rated winter walking trails in the twin cities are Shadow Falls and Lebanon Hills. Again, if you are willing to take a longer trip, try checking out Duluth!

Sledding

Sledding down a neighborhood hill will bring out all the memories and laughs from your childhood. Highlands is offering a tubing experience a little different from what you might remember of sledding!

Ice Skating

Check your local parks or lakes- make SURE they are safe and frozen. It’s never too late to learn how to skate! The Mall of America offers an outdoor skating rink right outside their front entrance!

Getting outside in the winter can be cold so bundle up!
